Step-by-step: New Pueblo County CHP (Concealed Handgun Permit)
1) Confirm you qualify
You must be 21+ at the time of application.
You must be tied to Pueblo County as a resident, or have a secondary residence or business within the county.
2) Take the required handgun training (verified instructor)
Starting July 1, 2025, Pueblo County notes Colorado HB24-1174 requires applicants (including renewals) to present a certificate from a Verified Concealed Handgun Permit Instructor after demonstrating handgun competence.
3) Gather what you’ll need before you start the online application
Have these ready:
Colorado government photo ID showing a correct Pueblo County address
Your handgun training certificate (they specify it must include the instructor’s original signature; and that online classes, home study, and hunter safety courses will not be accepted)
Proof of Pueblo County residency if your ID address doesn’t show it
4) Submit your application online (required)
Pueblo County requires electronic submission and uses a third-party system (Permitium).
5) Pay the application fee online
New application fee: $152.50
Payment is due when submitting the online application (processing fees may apply).
6) Schedule your in-person appointment (new permits only)
For new applications, Pueblo County accepts them by appointment only (no walk-ins / no phone appointments).
After you finish the online application, the system directs you to schedule the in-person appointment.
7) Go to your appointment (fingerprints + photo happen there)
Bring:
Your original training certificate
A valid government photo ID with correct Pueblo County address
At the appointment:
Plan for ~30 minutes
They will fingerprint you and take your photo.
8) Wait for processing and watch for notifications
Pueblo County says it may take up to 90 days to complete.
You’ll get an email or text when your permit is completed.

Renewal – Step-by-Step Guide
1) Confirm you’re eligible to renew
Your permit is currently valid or within the allowable renewal window
You still meet Colorado and Pueblo County residency requirements
You are not prohibited from possessing firearms

2) Complete required handgun training
Colorado law now requires renewal training
Training must be completed with a Verified Concealed Handgun Permit Instructor
You must demonstrate handgun competency
Your certificate must have the instructor’s original signature
❌ Online-only, hunter safety, or home-study courses are not accepted
3) Gather documents before applying
Have these ready:
Colorado government-issued photo ID
Handgun training certificate
Proof of Pueblo County residency (if your ID address is outdated)
4) Submit your renewal application online
Pueblo County uses the Permitium system
Renewals do NOT require an in-person appointment
Upload required documents during the application process
5) Pay the renewal fee
