Step-by-step: New Pueblo County CHP (Concealed Handgun Permit)

1) Confirm you qualify

  • You must be 21+ at the time of application.

  • You must be tied to Pueblo County as a resident, or have a secondary residence or business within the county.

2) Take the required handgun training (verified instructor)

Starting July 1, 2025, Pueblo County notes Colorado HB24-1174 requires applicants (including renewals) to present a certificate from a Verified Concealed Handgun Permit Instructor after demonstrating handgun competence.

3) Gather what you’ll need before you start the online application

Have these ready:

  • Colorado government photo ID showing a correct Pueblo County address

  • Your handgun training certificate (they specify it must include the instructor’s original signature; and that online classes, home study, and hunter safety courses will not be accepted)

  • Proof of Pueblo County residency if your ID address doesn’t show it

4) Submit your application online (required)

Pueblo County requires electronic submission and uses a third-party system (Permitium).

5) Pay the application fee online

  • New application fee: $152.50

  • Payment is due when submitting the online application (processing fees may apply).

6) Schedule your in-person appointment (new permits only)

For new applications, Pueblo County accepts them by appointment only (no walk-ins / no phone appointments).
After you finish the online application, the system directs you to schedule the in-person appointment.
